About Placer County Council

Welcome to Placer County Council Navy League of the United States!

The Navy League of the United States was founded in 1902 with the enthusiastic support of President Theodore Roosevelt.  Since its founding, the Navy League has promoted the need for strength in American sea power, and has grown to become the foremost citizens’ organization to serve, support and stand with all U.S. sea services — the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and U.S.-flag Merchant Marine. Decade after decade, the Navy League has demonstrated its leadership in advocating superior sea power to safeguard U.S. national security, protect American economic interests and ensure freedom of the seas.

The Navy League has three missions: to enhance the morale of active-duty personnel and their families; to inform Congress and the American public on the importance of strong sea services; and to support youth through programs such as the Naval Sea Cadet Corps, Junior ROTC and Young Marines that expose young people to the values of our sea services.

The Placer County Council was chartered by the Navy League on December 4, 1956. We are a 501(c)3 non-profit organization (EIN 68-0414086) and we currently have approximately 165 members located throughout Placer and neighboring counties. We are Citizens in Support of the Sea Services, which makes us unique among military support organizations in that you do not have to have served in uniform to be a member.

Our Key Activities include:

  • Monthly dinner meetings held on the third Monday of each month to keep us well informed by hearing from knowledgeable speakers.
  • Providing support to our three adopted units:  USS McCAMPBELL (DDG 85), an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer stationed in Japan, Naval Health Clinic at Lemoore Naval Air Station, Lemoore, California, and Naval Branch Health Clinic at Naval Air Station, Fallon, Nevada.
  • Providing awards to California Maritime Academy Naval Science Department students.
  • Providing support to the Navy Junior ROTC Unit at Luther Burbank High School and the Navy National Defense Cadet Corps at Yuba City High School.
  • Providing support to the Sacramento Sea Cadets, the Yuba Sutter Matthew Axelson Division of the Sea Cadets, and the Shasta Division of the Sea Cadets.
  • Participating in the Auburn Area Memorial Day Ceremonies, Auburn Fourth of July Parade, Auburn Veteran's Day Parade and Ceremony, and Wreaths Across America Ceremony.
  • Providing support to Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs in local schools.
  • Staffing a Placer County Polling Place to raise funds for our activities.
  • Sponsoring Wreaths Across America Ceremony in Auburn, CA.

The Navy League is a civilian program and offers citizens a way to interact with and directly support the impressive young men and women in our military sea services and associated youth programs.

"It seems to me that all good Americans interested in the growth of their country and sensitive to its honor, should give hearty support to the policies which the Navy League is founded to further. For the building and maintaining in proper shape of the American Navy, we must rely on nothing but the broad and farsighted patriotism of our people as a whole." - Teddy Roosevelt.
